Built in 1872, this lighthouse was operated by a resident keeper through 1974. It is now automated. "In 1994 the Coast Guard turned the property over to the Town of Swans Island, and eventually it will be part of a public park." (Uvick)

Here is I am at the lighthouse.

You used to be able to buy this stand-up depiction from the Lighthouse Depot Online.

You can still buy a cross stitch kit picturing the light, from Seguin Designs.

The Swan's Island Burnt Coat Harbor Light, also known as Hockamock Head Light (pictured left, with permission) is described by Don Uvick on his personal page "Lighthouses."

This Cyberlights page about the lighthouse, from Gary P. Richardson and Anna P. Klein, includes facts, directions, twelve photos, and a sixty second video with sound effects of breaking waves. The page has a nice Swans Island map too.

Another primary site for this lighthouse, with links to other pictures as well as to history and statistics, is from New England Lighthouses: a Virtual Guide, by Jeremy D'Entremont.

Another view of the Swan's Island lighthouse is to be found on the Burnt Coat Harbor Real Estate home page.

Yet another view of the lighthouse, this one by Donna Emmell.

An artistic representation, a Limited Edition art print by Bonnie Donato.

This set of 3 pictures, from The Lighthouse People, includes an aerial shot.

This picture from the Lighthouse Depot Online you can send as an e-postcard.

And finally, another aerial view, this one by skypic.

The Burnt Coat Harbor lighthouse is described in the National Park Service's Inventory of Historic Light Stations.

This page additionally describes the Burnt Coat harbor location of the light, noting that the name comes from the original (1604) French name for the island, Brule-Cote. (Though note that this is a Geocities site, so it also brings you a lot of pop-up window advertising...)

The best way to enjoy all of the Sweet Chariot Music Festival in August every summer windjammer cruise into the harbor: "Passengers enjoy the best of New England's folk music in Burnt Coat Harbor on Swan's Island. More than a dozen groups perform traditional music of the sea aboard each windjammer, followed by a gala concert on shore in the evening."
